Mums-to-be have so many questions when they discover they are pregnant… but where is best to go to find the answers?
15 April 2010 | The Portland Hospital
Wow! You’ve just discovered that you are pregnant… but suddenly you’re overwhelmed with so many unanswered questions relating to your pregnancy, birthing options and caring for your newborn baby.
A whole new baby world surrounded with unfamiliar terms like antenatal, postnatal, sonographers, entonox, anesthetists, obstetricians, bowen therapy, amniocentesis test, folic acid, group B streptococcus… the list goes on, but you’re not on your own on this exciting journey that lies ahead.
The Portland Hospital takes a proactive approach to educate mums & dads-to-be in preparation for the arrival of their new family addition. This is achieved through guided tours of the hospital with a midwife, childbirth preparation classes, baby first aid, breastfeeding workshops, postnatal mother & baby groups and regular open day events hosted throughout the year.
From the first moment you discover that you are expecting through to the delivery of your baby, The Portland Hospital aims to provide you with professional answers to your maternity questions to ensure that you have an informed, safe and memorable childbirth experience.
Some common pregnancy related questions asked at the hospital include:
- What are my delivery options?
- What is the difference between Midwifery and Consultant Led Care?
- What different methods of pain relief do you have?
- Do you have Anaesthetists available 24hrs to administer epidurals and assist if I require an emergency caesarean section?
- Can my partner stay with me overnight in the hospital?
- What kind of emergency facilities do you have for the baby?
The Portland Hospital provides an ideal platform for parents-to-be to obtain the answers to the above questions and many more at their twice yearly Pregnancy Open Day. The next open day is scheduled for Sunday 25th April 2010 from 10.30am to 4.30pm at The Portland Hospital, 205-209 Great Portland Street, London, W1W 5AH.
Guests are offered guided tours of the hospital’s newly refurbished facilities including the delivery suites, maternity wards and nurseries then mothers can sit back and enjoy a relaxing massage. Visitors can also take a look at the Maternal & Fetal Wellbeing Centre for Imaging Services to see examples of some amazing 3D/4D ultrasound technology including moving and still images of babies whilst in their mother’s womb.
Consultants and midwives are available throughout the Open Day to meet visitors and offer free of charge one-to-one advice. Complimentary massages or reflexology treatments are also offered to mums-to-be. Every mum also receive a special goodie bag worth up to £50 to take home, packed full of exclusive products from leading suppliers and includes vital healthcare information.
Parents-to be incur no costs to attend this event and the invitation is extended to all parents-to-be including those who are not booked to deliver their baby at The Portland Hospital.
Elizabeth Kyprianou, Marketing Manager of The Portland Hospital comments “Parents-to-be are warmly invited to our Pregnancy Open Day 2010. These open days prove very popular, with over 150 attendees walking through the doors at our last event. The Open Day provides a wonderful opportunity for all parents-to-be to find out valuable pregnancy information, meet the staff, midwives and consultants and tour our newly refurbished hospital”.
Comments from the previous open days included “Our tour guide was very friendly and helpful. A very good opportunity for us to get a feel of the facility and get our questions answered!”, “As a father-to-be for the first time, I found the day very informative. It helped de-mystify the birthing process.”
